Your Steam page is your best salesperson. It works 24/7, and it turns every visit into a wishlist, or not.
I wrote this checklist as a free, realistic and grounded tool so you won’t have to pay for “Steam Page Optimisation” services.
So follow the guide I made thanks to years of building and looking at hundreds of Steam pages, you’ll keep the money for something else.
What’s inside
Seven short sections, each with boxes to tick:
- Capsules & key art: Steam’s current asset sizes, and the one test that matters: is your title still readable on the small capsule?
- Short description & first paragraph: genre, unique selling point and promise, in one sentence.
- Screenshots, GIFs & trailer: including the micro-trailer check. Steam now autoplays short cuts of your trailer, and that’s how most visitors will first see your game.
- Long description: Yes it matters, but how do you tailor it for your audience!
- Tags & reach: Everything that matters for Steam Algorithm to push your game to your audience.
- Launching and promoting your Steam page: You launched your Steam page, now what?
- Bonus hacks: Three hacks I found that are completely easy to replicate!
Why I made it
I’ve seen too many indies games launching their Steam pages with nothing happening except this. No announcement trailer, no basic press outreach, not even a Reddit post.
This is the biggest mistake you can avoid!
Your announcement is a key moment to make Steam understand your game is interesting to others players, with the checklist you won’t miss it.
Triggering Steam visibility otherwise is very hard but it can be done – and I reveal how we’ve done it for Outward 2… In the guide 😉
The checklist is built to be used before you publish your Steam pages but also as a guideline for how to create your marketing strategy.
